Minimum Filtration Requirements for Small Fish Ponds

No matter how small your pond is it is essential to have proper filtration and UV clarifiers.
The pump station shown below has the following:
- 2 bag sand filter with koi sand
- Bio filter 10 liter
- UV light minimum 15 watt
- 2 kw heater.
This pond using a old cast iron bath holds 500 liter. It has not been cleaned or backwashed for at least 4 months. Without this filtration it was cleaned once a week with half the fish now in it. This system can handle up to 6000 liters safely.
